Olympic Logos, Part "Extra"

Montreal 1976 Olympics Logo

I found this little gem today and thought it fit in well as an extra for my recent Olympic Logos Series. It is one page from a wonderful Flickr set of Vintage Logos. This one, like the controversial London 2012 and Sochi 2014, doesn’t fit into the model that I proposed as a standard logo layout for each year. However, unlike London and Sochi, it still represents the perfect logo model—in the words of Ivan Chermayeff, “To be effective over a reasonably long lifetime, all identities must be simple and appropriate. However, if they are not original or in any way provacative, thought-provoking and noticable, they will not accomplish their task.”

The series:

Olympic Logo Series, Part 2 (1990s)
Olympic Logo Series, Part 3 (2000s)
